JORGE MACCHI 'Der Zauberberg'

Der Zauberberg is the title of Jorge Macchi’s (Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1963) first solo exhibition in Turin. For Studio Quartz the artist has conceived a site-specific installation. The title comes from Thomas Mann's novel The Magic Mountain, which left a deep impression on Macchi when he discovered that the magic mountain is a recurring image in German literature, a place from where people do not return. The projects consists of eight identical groups of objects, which recall the gallery’s floor pattern colours. The ensembles are obtained from the juxtaposition of always the same items and rubbish like boards, bottles, newspapers, cardboard boxes, etc.
