DANIEL BUREN

Photo-souvenir: 'Exposition d’une exposition: Rebondissements-Parme’, 1972-2019

travail variable et situé, Frieze Masters

The work 'Exposition d'une exposition, une pièce en 7 tableaux', travail in situ, firstly shown in Documenta V, Kassel, juin 1972 has been then shown in: 'Comme Lieu, Situation 1', Le Nouveau Musée, Villeurbanne, juin 1972-novembre 1986 'Comme Lieu, Situation 1', Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris, juin 1972-mars 1987 'Target Practice : Painting Under Attack 1949-78', Seattle Art Museum, Seattle, juin 1972-juin 2009

'Les 7 tableaux' of the title is not related to the paintings hung on the Buren's work, but to the 7 sections of Documenta V where he was showing this work. In that specific work the stripes etched on the white paper were white. The work is slightly visible on the photos.

MICHELANGELO PISTOLETTO

Tavolo con tovaglia bianca

1982

silkscreen on polished stainless steel mirror

250 x 125 cm

"Tavolo con Tovaglia Bianca" is one of the Mirror Paintings, works that Pistoletto realizes, starting in 1962, by placing a photographic nature figure on a mirror-polished stainless steel plate. The Mirror Paintings are the foundation of all subsequent research and artistic reflection by Pistoletto. "Tavolo con Tovaglia Bianca" presents the image of a simple everyday object, a table, which seems to recall around itself, for an ideal convivial moment, the spectators who will reflect on the mirroring surface of the work. The white tablecloth adds another potential layer of meaning with its reference to the painter's white canvas, which became reflective with the creation of the mirror painting.
