The exhibition Lift Not the Painted Veil presents a sweeping overview of Berlinde De Bruyckere’s practice, bringing together both new and earlier works spanning more than thirty years. At its heart is the debut of a sculpture inspired by the polychrome wooden figures of Ernst Barlach—an homage and a dialogue across time. De Bruyckere’s distinctive visual language unfolds through references to mythology, Christian iconography, and the existential concerns of the present day, forming a deeply layered reflection on vulnerability, transformation, and resilience.
