Film screening
Kinshasa
Democratic Republic of Congo
A special screening on the day before New Year's Eve marks the first time that the film will be shown in Africa. Returning to the historical Place de la Victoire, where part of the film was shot, the screening is an homage to the film’s stars and a tribute to the late Papa Wemba. Included by the late curator Okwui Enwezor in the 2015 Venice Biennale, Fara Fara, 2014, meaning face to face in Lingala, is an ode to Congo’s rich musical culture and the legendary ‘father of Congolese rumba,’ Papa Wemba. The film follows the performative duel, 'fara fara', between two of the DRC’s biggest stars, Koffi Olomide and Werrason.
