The Franco-Algerian artist Kader Attia (Dugny, France, 1970) explores the complex relationships between culture, history, and politics. Through a variety of media, including sculpture, installation, video, and photography, Attia examines themes such as identity, collective memory, and the scars of colonialism.
His work is known for addressing the concept of cultural 'repair,' where he investigates how societies face and process the wounds of the past. Focused on the decolonization not only of peoples but also of knowledge, attitudes, and practices, he seeks to break down the compartmentalization of knowledge through a transcultural, transdisciplinary, and transgenerational approach. Driven by the urgency of social and cultural repair, he aims to reunite what has been fractured or displaced.
