The New York-based artist Kiki Smith is one of the most out¬standing artists of our time and a pioneer of contemporary sculpture. She has created a multifaceted body of work that explores social and political as well as spiritual and philosophical aspects of human nature Smith opens up the human condition for public debate investigating the human body without fear of taboos, humiliation, or the constraints of shame. This exhibition, curated by Petra Giloy-Hirtz, is the first large-scale retrospective of the artist’s work in Europe. It explores diverse practice and traces her career from the beginnings in the 1980s to the present day. “Procession" is inscribed into artist’s work as a central theme.The title refers in a literal sense to her artistic oeuvre, which has developed over more than three decades and unfolds here.
