KADER ATTIA ‘Reflecting Memory’ 2016, installation view, “Participation Mystique”, Ming contemporary art Museum
McaM Ming contemporary art Museum
The title of the exhibition comes from Lucien Lévy-Bruhl’s study “How Natives Think” from 1910, in which he controversially divided societal cognitive processes into “primitive” or “civilized”, the former being used to describe those who couldn’t decipher between natural and supernatural. Bringing together 14 international artists, the works in this exhibition allude to psychoanalytic theories that consider shared unconsciousness and man’s connection to imagined fantasies.
