‘(Cave) is such a foundational work for everything that happened afterwards. It is so close to the beginning of my thinking about how to introduce the body into sculpture in a completely radical way. Cave is non-representational, and so absolutely states this confrontation with otherness – whether a confrontation with another person whose interiority you can only imagine and you cannot know, or a confrontation with an object that exists outside mortal time and through which you become very aware of your own freedom.’
