LOBI LOBI ...
like a dream,
a dream mirror,
an opportunity of the possible,
it is the alphabet of forbidden writing.
“LOBI LOBI: Pascale Marthine Tayou” celebrates the work of internationally renowned contemporary artist Pascale Marthine Tayou. This exhibition presents works which examine the scarcity and excess of resources in the contemporary landscape. Named after the artist’s poem LOBI LOBI, the exhibition highlights the rich paradoxes of consumer and material culture and comprises vibrant and thought-provoking sculptures, mixed media, and installation works, including iconic creations. The artist describes his visual environment as a playing field to build ephemeral structures of hybridity, connecting nature, the artifact, and the bodily. As an active observant and player of the everyday, his art process is embedded in the act of accumulation, with a means to rearrange, rewire, or rectify the spiritual, and material significances of societies.
Curated by Maisa Al Qassimi, Noor Al Mehairbi and Reem Al Hashmi.
This exhibition is presented in collaboration with Galleria Continua.
