Continua XXL Online: co-founder Lorenzo Fiaschi talks about working with Daniel Buren

For  the 7th edition of the viewing room Continua XXL Online, we present #DanielBuren “Una cosa tira l’altra”!

-

Here, co-founder of Galleria Continua Lorenzo Fiaschi talks about working with Daniel Buren, some of his most famous (and controversial) works and the importance of Daniel Buren for the development of art.

-

The work was a vast structure that filled the ex-theatre cinema space of Galleria Continua in 2015 for the solo show, “Una cosa tira l'altra, lavori in situ e situati, 1965-2015”. Made from scaffolding and Buren’s signature vertical stripes, it allowed for new perspectives and view points from which to observe the surrounding architecture as well as works by other artists selected for the exhibition. Aerial walkways brought the visitor to different heights and levels and offered natural culmination and meeting points, transforming the experience into one of connection between art and people.

Made up of 6 sheets of mirror, the work belongs to the 'Minus Objects' of 1965-1966, a series which is seen as essential for the birth of #ArtePovera. A new manifestation of the artist’s deeply developed use of the mirrored surface, the cube is the vessel for the ultimate placement of the viewer between what he has before him and what he has behind him, the past being transformed to the future.

Continua XXL Online: JR presents "Giants, Peeking at the City, Havana, Cuba"

The 4th edition of #ContinuaXXLOnline presents #JR and his work “GIANTS, PEEKING AT THE CITY, HAVANA, CUBA”, a huge paste up of a little boy, Alain, who lives in Havana and who met the artist by chance when they were looking at the location for an eventual work to be pasted on the outside wall of ARTE CONTINUA.

Invited by #GalleriaContinua for the 13th Havana Biennial, JR created this work in April 2019. It incorporates many different perspectives, that of a little boy who plays every day in the square of the neighborhood as well as that of the city as a whole. The boy is “peeking” out over the city and towards the sea, the horizon and far-away lands, demonstrating the position of Havana in Cuba as an island nation, separated from the rest of the world yet open to new influences and outlooks.
